Toronto prodco and distributor Shadow Pine Studios has inked a slate deal with Super Channel, kicking off the partnership with two new true crime series, which will debut on the market at MIPCOM 2023 later this month.
Super Channel will be the Canadian broadcaster for the true crime series under the deal. The lineup will deliver up to 40 hours of programming, with Killer Clues: Forensics and Texts, Lies & Videotape as the two projects announced, according to a news release. The total episode order has not been confirmed, according to a spokesperson for Shadow Pine.
Killer Clues: Forensics, produced by Shadow Pine and Germany’s Palatin Media, uses recreations and expert interviews to follow the investigation of “seemingly unsolvable crimes.”
Texts, Lies & Videotape, produced by Shadow Pine and Vendetta Entertainment, looks at online encounters that turn deadly.
“Super Channel has been an exceptional partner for our company over the years,” said Shadow Pine’s CEO Michael McGuigan in a statement. “We’ve had great success internationally with our true crime programming and look forward to delivering new episodes over the next 18 months.”
Shadow Pine Studios was launched in 2022 by McGuigan, former CFO and partner of Breakthrough Entertainment, and Dave Conlon, Eggplant Collective CFO and founding partner.
The studio acquired Breakthrough Entertainment’s content library and other assets and taps Eggplant’s post-production capabilities.
Super Channel signed an exclusive deal with Winnipeg-based Farpoint Films in January to produce 150 hours of unscripted and scripted content for the network, including series and movies.
